Legendary Farming Basics

Legendaries drop at low rates from almost anything on Ultimate, but deliberate farming means choosing sources: SR reward chests for volume, Nemeses and rogue-like dungeon bosses for concentrated quality, Monster Totems for incidental pickups. When a set won't complete, the Inventor's Transmute service (FG only) converts unwanted set pieces.

CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE
  • Want volume? Run SR - clear two or more shards, then claim and exit to open the reward chests in bulk (mechanics in Endgame Money).
  • Want concentrated quality? Hunt Nemeses (guaranteed unique MI - Monster Infrequent - plus high legendary/blueprint rates) and rogue-like dungeon bottom bosses with their treasure troves.
  • Want incidental pickups? Monster Totems (FG) - the specific legendary weapons added in v1.1.6.0 drop more readily from them.
  • Missing one set piece? The Inventor's Transmute service (FG only; unlocked via an Act 7 quest in the campaign) reshuffles eligible set items - acquisition-restricted gear such as MI sets is excluded.
  • Mind the difficulty: legendaries almost never drop on Normal - farm on Ultimate (Elite at minimum).
01 / SOURCES-OVERVIEW

Choosing Your Source

Prerequisites: Ultimate access and roughly level 94 (when Mythical-band gear becomes relevant). Every source has trade-offs.

  • SR: start at the SR entrance in the FG hub. One cycle = clear two or more shards, claim and exit to open the reward chests, then return to the main menu for the next run. The volume workhorse, though contents are random (reward mechanics in Endgame Money).
  • Nemeses: first raise the target faction's infamy to 20,000 (Nemesis rank). Since v1.2.1.0 they are no longer pre-positioned - killing enough of that faction's enemies triggers a proximity message and spawns the Nemesis nearby. Normally one spawn per session, so kill it and start a fresh session to repeat. Every kill guarantees its unique MI, with high legendary/blueprint rates.
  • Rogue-like dungeons: as the example, Steps of Torment starts from the Broken Hills Rift - head south to the entrance, spend the Skeleton Key at the locked door, kill the bottom boss, and loot the trove to finish the lap. No same-session re-entry, so the next lap needs a fresh session (constraints in Mid Game Money).
  • Monster Totems (FG): don't build a route around them - activate them as you encounter them during progression or other loops. The specific legendary weapons added in v1.1.6.0 appear more readily from them. No particular end condition.
  • Every source rolls random contents - there is no guaranteed number of runs for a drop.
02 / RANDOM-DROPS

Random-Drop Fundamentals

  • Legendaries almost never drop on Normal, and loot quality rises with difficulty - Ultimate is the farming baseline.
  • Mythical-band gear centers on a level 94 requirement (with exceptions like 84), so much of what drops before 94 can't be worn yet.
  • Per the official guide, hero monsters can drop some of the game's best equipment and bosses drop the best equipment, including gear unique to them. Routing hero/boss/chest checkpoints is the standard play over full-clearing trash (actual efficiency depends on build and route).
  • If the piece you want is actually an MI (Monster Infrequent), switch from legendary farming to MI target-farming (see the Monster Infrequents article).
03 / TRANSMUTE

Transmute (Set Conversion)

An Inventor service, Forgotten Gods only. In the campaign it unlocks after clearing the Act 7 quest for the Tome of Eanatum - per character and difficulty (the Crucible's Inventor is the exception, offering all functions regardless of progress).

  • Only eligible set items can be converted - into another piece of the same set, or into an item of a different set.
  • Acquisition-restricted gear (MI sets, pieces that only appear from specific chests, and so on) cannot be used as conversion targets.
  • Each conversion consumes materials and a hefty sum of iron (see the wiki's Inventor page for the breakdown) - using it on low-level sets is poor value.
  • Keep duplicate set pieces instead of vendoring them - they are your conversion ammo.
  • Randomness is involved, so a specific target piece is not guaranteed - pace conversions against your material stock.
All drops are RNG - no run count guarantees exist. The stray non-Japanese (Hangul) character in the old body text was removed in this rework. For Transmute's fine-grained conversion rules, see the wiki's Inventor page.
