GRIM DAWN / FARMING / INTERMEDIATE
Faction Reputation Farming
Friendly-faction reputation comes from quests, bounties, and killing rival-faction monsters, with vendor tiers unlocking at Respected/Honored/Revered. Higher difficulties grant more. The Writ (Honored) boosts gains by +50%; the Mandate (Revered) is a +200% booster you pass to alts via the shared stash (they don't stack - a Mandate overwrites the Writ's multiplier). Hostile-faction Infamy is a separate track, used to spawn Nemeses.

CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE
- ▸The baseline: progress quests, then cycle bounty-table contracts once the table unlocks (Respected - except the Black Legion's, which opens at Friendly). Reputation comes from quests, bounties, and killing rival-faction monsters.
- ▸Boost efficiency: higher difficulties grant more reputation. The Writ (Honored, +50%) and the Mandate (Revered, +200%) - they do not stack; using a Mandate overwrites the Writ's multiplier.
- ▸For alts, the standard play is using a Mandate (shared-stash transferable) from your first character before they start earning. Writs are soulbound and cannot be handed down.
- ▸Bounty constraints: one active per faction, five per faction per session, and no abandoning once taken - read the target before accepting.
- ▸Farming for augments? Prioritize the faction selling the resistances your build needs (see Components and Augments).
01 / REP-BASICS
Reputation Basics and Ranks
Prerequisite: unlocking each faction's hub. Reputation accrues per character, per faction.
- ▸Three sources: completing quests, running bounties, and killing monsters hostile to that faction.
- ▸Rank thresholds (per the Japanese Wiki): Friendly from 1,501; Respected from 5,001 (tier-2 vendor and bounties unlock - except the Black Legion's table, which opens at Friendly); Honored from 10,001 (tier-3 vendor); Revered from 25,000 (tier-4 vendor and top perks).
- ▸Higher difficulties are tuned to grant more reputation (exact multipliers are not published).
- ▸The purchases that matter - augments, blueprints - cluster at Honored/Revered, so pick your first faction by what your build needs.
- ▸FoA adds three factions (its official product page lists Three Factions). However, the official Factions guide page still says 'eleven Factions' and has not been updated for FoA, so neither the new factions' names nor their reputation thresholds can be confirmed officially. With FoA installed, look at the actual hubs and vendors before deciding who to grind.
- ▸The rank thresholds above come from the Japanese wiki, whose page was last modified 2024-07-05 and therefore reflects the v1.2 era. No patch note says v1.3 changed them, but they are not backed by an official primary source either.
02 / BOUNTIES
Working the Bounty Table
- ▸Bounty tables sit in each faction hub and unlock at Respected (exception: the Black Legion's opens at Friendly).
- ▸Constraints: one active bounty per faction, five per faction per session, and no abandoning once accepted.
- ▸Rewards (reputation, items) are fixed per bounty and difficulty. Targets can be far away or overtuned - read before accepting.
- ▸After finishing the five, remake the session to keep taking contracts.
- ▸Bounties are the reputation workhorse once quests run dry - pair them with rival-faction kills.
03 / BOOSTERS
Writs and Mandates (Boosters)
- ▸Writ: purchasable at Honored (100,000 iron per the wiki); the character who uses it gains +50% reputation with that faction. It is soulbound and cannot be handed down.
- ▸Mandate: purchasable at Revered (15,000 iron per the wiki); transferable to alts via the shared stash, granting +200% gains to whoever uses it.
- ▸They do not stack. A set multiplier can't be returned to 1.0x, but a Mandate (3.0x) can overwrite a Writ (1.5x).
- ▸The standard flow: your first character optionally buys the Writ at Honored, buys Mandates once Revered, and alts get a Mandate from the start.
- ▸The Infamy side has its own +200% booster - the Warrant, dropped by Nemeses - if you want to accelerate hostility.
- ▸Boosters are per-faction. Collecting them all is a post-Revered project - start with the faction you actually need.
04 / INFAMY
Hostile Infamy Is a Separate Track
- ▸Hostile factions accrue Infamy - a track separate from friendly reputation. For permanently hostile factions it never decreases (the exception: factions whose hostility depends on a story choice can have the relationship and accrued value reset by choosing differently on another difficulty).
- ▸At 20,000 Infamy (Nemesis rank) that faction's Nemesis starts spawning (hunting procedure in Legendary Farming Basics).
- ▸The practical effect of high Infamy is more of that faction's enemies and heroes spawning, culminating in the Nemesis - raise it understanding that tougher spawns come with it.
- ▸v1.3.0.0 tuned Infamy in opposite directions depending on the faction. Beasts now grant less Infamy from their heroes and bosses and require more kills to spawn their Nemesis - i.e. it takes longer than it used to. Cronley's Gang went the other way: more Infamy from its heroes and bosses and fewer kills required - i.e. faster than it used to be. In both cases what changed is the yield from heroes and bosses; the notes say nothing about ordinary enemies.
- ▸Note that this is a before-and-after statement, not a comparison between the two factions. Neither the resulting Infamy values nor the current kill counts were published, so there is no basis for saying which faction now reaches a Nemesis first. Choose your target by the augments and gear you need, not by Infamy speed.
- ▸In FoA's Ascendant Mode, Nemesis re-spawns require more kills (v1.3.0.4). Hunting them back-to-back the way you would normally will feel slower.
- ▸v1.3.0.4 fixed the Aetherial and Aetherial Vanguard Nemeses spawning inconsistently - if waiting on those two used to come up empty, that is resolved.
- ▸Killing the enemies of the faction you're befriending advances friendly reputation and hostile infamy at the same time - two birds, one stone.
Exact per-difficulty reputation multipliers are not officially published, so none are claimed. Per-faction hubs and inventories are build-dependent and left to build pages and the faction pages. v1.3.0.0's Infamy tuning likewise published neither the magnitude nor the kill counts, so only the direction of change is given. FoA's three added factions are left unnamed and without thresholds because the official Factions guide page has not been updated for FoA.

Verification Sources
7- Grim Dawn Japanese Wiki: Factions — Confirms the three reputation sources, rank thresholds, higher gains at higher difficulties, the bounty constraints (one active per faction, five per session, no abandoning, fixed rewards) with the Black Legion exception, and Infamy never decreasing for permanently hostile factions.
- Grim Dawn Japanese Wiki: Faction Boosters — Confirms the Writ (Honored, +50%, 100,000 iron, soulbound), the Mandate (Revered, +200%, 15,000 iron, shared-stash transferable), the no-stacking/overwrite behavior (multipliers can't return to 1.0x), and the Warrant (+200% Infamy, dropped by Nemeses).
- Grim Dawn Japanese Wiki: Glossary (Nemesis) — Confirms Nemesis spawns unlocking at 20,000 Infamy (Nemesis rank).
- Official Crate Forum: Grim Dawn v1.3.0.0 + Hotfixes — Confirms the per-faction Infamy tuning verbatim: 『Reduced infamy gained from killing Beast heroes and bosses and increased kills required to spawn their Nemesis.』 and 『Increased infamy gained from killing Cronley's Gang heroes and bosses and reduced kills required to spawn their Nemesis.』 - the same patch moved two factions in opposite directions, so neither generalizes to the other. No figures were given. The full patch was also read through to confirm nothing changes friendly reputation gains, rank thresholds, bounties, or boosters.
- Official Crate Forum: Grim Dawn v1.3.0.4 + v1.3.0.5 — Official patch notes for the verified version (v1.3.0.5 is the latest as of 2026-08-06). Confirms the two Nemesis entries: 『Increased Kill count for Nemesis re-spawns in Ascendant mode.』 and 『Fixed inconsistent spawning of Aetherial and Aetherial Vanguard Nemesises.』 Nothing further changes reputation or infamy gain rates.
- Official Grim Dawn Game Guide: Factions — Confirms that Writs and Mandates are scrolls accelerating reputation gain, and the three augment categories. Its body still reads 『Grim Dawn features eleven Factions』 and has not been updated for FoA's three (Asterkarn appears only in the page navigation), so it cannot be relied on for the faction count or the new factions' details - hence this article limits itself to what the official product page states.
- Official Product Page: Grim Dawn - Fangs of Asterkarn — The FoA feature list confirms Three Factions and nothing more - it does not name them or state their reputation thresholds or inventories.
