Collecting Blueprints: Buying, Farming, and Handling Duplicates

Blueprints learn instantly on right-click, and learned recipes are shared by every character on every difficulty (Softcore and Hardcore keep separate saves and never share). The five acquisition routes: random drops from enemies, shrines, and chests; quest rewards; faction reputation shop purchases; rogue-like dungeon merchants; and boss-limited drops. The guaranteed fills are the fixed-inventory faction shops; rogue-like dungeon merchants carry randomized stock and work as a lottery to check each visit. For the rest, farm drop-friendly content - rogue-like dungeons, Nemeses, Monster Totems. Never vendor an unlearned blueprint; only learned duplicates become sale income.

CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE
  • Picked up a blueprint? Right-click to learn it on the spot - no blacksmith visit needed, and the recipe is shared by all characters on all difficulties.
  • Want a specific blueprint? Check whether it is purchasable first: faction reputation shops (roughly Respected+) carry fixed stock and are the reliable route, while rogue-like dungeon merchants sell blueprints from randomized inventory you cannot count on for one specific recipe.
  • Farming for drops? Rogue-like dungeons (one-lap runs with bottom-floor rewards), Nemeses (high blueprint drop rates), and Monster Totems (FG) are the blueprint-friendly staples.
  • Handling duplicates: never sell an unlearned one. Only already-learned duplicates - which cannot be re-learned - become sale income.
  • Starting Hardcore? Blueprints never cross modes - the HC side must acquire and learn its own copies.
01 / SOURCES-OVERVIEW

The acquisition routes at a glance

Five routes supply blueprints - planning starts by separating what you can buy from what you must find.

  • 1) Random drops from enemies, shrines, and chests - the baseline that accumulates just by playing.
  • 2) Quest rewards - some are guaranteed through progression.
  • 3) Faction reputation shops sell certain component and gear blueprints, gated by standing (roughly Respected+; see the reputation farming article).
  • 4) Rogue-like dungeon merchants sell blueprints inside the dungeons.
  • 5) Boss-limited drops - some blueprints, such as those for high-tier relics, come only from fixed bosses.
  • Which route covers your target blueprint is checkable on the Japanese wiki's blueprint lists or in Grim Tools.
02 / BUY-FIRST

Lock in the purchasable ones first

  • Faction-shop blueprints carry fixed stock - the RNG-free slots. Check the shops before praying for drops.
  • Some faction-shop blueprints run expensive, but a recipe learned once serves every character, so the value is high.
  • Rogue-like dungeon merchants are a randomized lottery: you cannot count on one specific recipe, but browsing every run occasionally fills an unexpected gap.
  • Before buying, confirm you have not already learned it - re-buying a known recipe does nothing.
  • If your standing is too low to buy, run the reputation track first (quests, bounties - see the reputation farming article).
03 / DROP-FARMING

Where to farm for drops

  • Rogue-like dungeons: one-lap runs consuming a Skeleton Key, whose bottom boss and treasure troves pile up rewards - three exist in the base game alone (see Mid Game Money).
  • A reproducible example (Steps of Torment): prerequisites are Act 2 access and one Skeleton Key (blueprint from an Act 2 side-quest reward, crafted at the blacksmith). Start from the Broken Hills Rift and head south to the entrance, spend the key at the locked door inside, descend one-way to the fixed bottom boss, kill it, loot the treasure trove, and check the merchants' stock along the way to finish the lap. Inside: no personal rifts, exit only by death or clearing, no same-session re-entry.
  • Stop condition and fallback: stop once the target blueprint is learned. When keys run out, switch to Nemesis laps or totem clears while restocking.
  • Nemeses: blueprint drop rates rank alongside their legendaries. The 20,000-infamy prep is in Legendary Farming Basics.
  • Monster Totems (with FG): activating them as you travel adds gear and blueprint rolls for free.
  • Shattered Realm (SR, with FG): reward chests include blueprints - and some recipes, like FG's legendary-tier rune recipes, come mainly from SR rewards.
  • Higher difficulties lean toward higher-tier blueprints, but exact drop rates are unpublished - no guarantees.
04 / DUPES-AND-SHARING

Duplicates and sharing

Blueprints are account assets - knowing the rules tells you what each pickup is worth.

  • Unlearned blueprints learn instantly on right-click, saved into the shared file (formulas.gst/.gsh) and usable by every character on every difficulty.
  • No shared-stash handoff is needed - the moment one character learns it, every character's blacksmith knows it.
  • Softcore and Hardcore keep entirely separate saves, so recipes never cross modes.
  • Never sell an unlearned blueprint (the money guides' shared iron rule). Learned duplicates cannot be re-learned, so selling them is fine.
  • Not sure whether you know one already? Right-click it - if unlearned, you learn it on the spot. When in doubt, right-click is always safe.
Drop-sourced blueprint rates are unpublished, so no lap-count or per-hour figures are guaranteed. Per-blueprint sources are left to the wiki lists and Grim Tools.
