This mission, known for its extreme difficulty and perceived unfairness, brought many soldiers to their knees. It has currently been temporarily removed from the operation list by the developers. However, as long as galactic peace remains threatened, the day this mission is re-implemented will surely come. In preparation for that day, we at "Game Rack" have analyzed vast amounts of past combat data to provide a comprehensive manual covering the most successful squad tactics and escort routes. To become future heroes, now is the time to learn and prepare with past strategies!

Current Status and Overview of the Retrieve Essential Personnel Mission

First and foremost, it's crucial to note that the "Retrieve Essential Personnel" mission, discussed in this article, was temporarily removed from the game with the Patch 1.000.400 update and cannot currently be played. According to the developers, the reasons cited were that the mission was "not fun" and "not functioning as intended," with no set date for its re-implementation. The community had also voiced numerous concerns regarding its high difficulty and the challenge of clearing it without specific tactics.

The objective of this mission is both simple and brutal: escort a total of 60 unarmed civilians (scientists) hiding in shelters within a research facility under heavy Automaton assault, to an extraction shuttle. You must press activation buttons on multiple shelters located in a confined area to guide the civilians, but enemy reinforcements are relentless. Even a slight lapse in attention can lead to the civilians being brutally killed, resulting in mission failure.

It's important to note that a similarly named mission, "Evacuate High-Value Assets," exists. However, in that mission, the defense targets are "objects" like research samples, not humans, and the strategies for success are entirely different, so caution is needed not to confuse them.

The "3:1 Squad Tactic" Key to Mission Success

When this mission was playable, the "3:1 squad tactic," which split the team into two groups, was considered the most effective. This was a very clever strategy that exploited the AI's characteristic of concentrating enemy reinforcements at player locations.

Decoy Role (3 Players) Strategy

Three members of the squad take on the "decoy role." Their mission is to move as far as possible from the shelter area (e.g., to a diagonal corner of the map), engage the enemy there, and draw all enemy attention (aggro) to themselves. Since enemy reinforcement requests (dropships) are deployed to player locations, the decoys fighting conspicuously away from the objective area helps secure the safety of the civilian area. The key is not to eliminate enemies but to survive and continuously draw their attention. Therefore, a Shield Generator Pack, durable armor, and stratagems effective for slowing down enemies are recommended.

Executioner Role (1 Player) Strategy

The remaining single player takes on the "executioner role," bearing the mission's success or failure. While the decoys draw enemy aggro, this player infiltrates the objective area alone, pressing the activation buttons for the shelters where civilians are waiting. The executioner must avoid combat with enemies as much as possible. Therefore, light armor with excellent movement speed and stamina efficiency, and the "LIFT-850 Jump Pack" for quick traversal regardless of terrain, were considered almost essential equipment. Being spotted by the enemy risks calling in reinforcements to that location, potentially wiping out both the executioner and the civilians, so stealth is the primary mode of operation.

Recommended Stratagems and Equipment for Civilian Escort

In this specialized mission, stratagems that hinder and divide enemies, as well as assist friendly stealth operations, are far more crucial than raw firepower.

Essential Stratagems

1. Eagle Smoke Strike: The executioner's strongest ally. Deploying it along the path from shelter exits to the extraction shuttle creates a wall of smoke, blocking enemy towers and patrols' line of sight and allowing civilians to move safely. Given its multiple uses and short cooldown, it should be employed proactively.
2. Orbital EMS Strike / A/M-23 EMS Mortar Sentry: Completely paralyzes enemy movement for a certain duration. Highly effective for emergency evasion if the executioner encounters an enemy patrol, or for holding back enemies gathered around the shuttle. The A/M-23 EMS Mortar Sentry has a wide-ranging and sustained effect, making it ideal for defending the shuttle's landing zone.
3. G-23 Stun (Grenade): An immediate, throwable crowd-control tool. Useful for stopping groups of enemies in sudden situations and securing a safe route.

Strategic Sentry Placement

Aggressive Sentry turrets (e.g., A/MG-43 Gatling Sentry) are not recommended for use in the objective area where the executioner is operating, due to a very high risk of accidental friendly fire on civilians. If used, extreme caution is required, such as placing them away from civilian movement paths and towards enemy spawn points. In contrast, the "A/M-23 EMS Mortar Sentry" has no offensive capability, making it safe to place along civilian routes and effectively slow down enemy advances.

Walkthrough Steps and Dangerous Points Explained

We will explain the specific steps to succeed with the "3:1 squad tactic."

1. Drop and Role Reconfirmation
   Always decide on role assignments before dropping. After deployment, immediately split into the decoy team and the executioner to begin operations.
2. Decoy Team Gathers Aggro
   The three decoys move towards the farthest edge of the map from the shelter area. They engage any enemies encountered along the way and call in reinforcements to draw all enemies on the map towards their vicinity.
3. Executioner Infiltration and Shelter Activation
   The executioner waits for enemy attention to be fully focused on the decoy team, then infiltrates the objective area. Instead of pressing all shelter activation buttons at once, it's safer to progressively activate 2-3 locations at a time, keeping the shuttle's capacity (around 10-15 civilians per trip) in mind.
4. Civilian Escort and Guidance
   Guide the civilians emerging from the shelters to the shuttle. During this, use "Eagle Smoke Strike" to create a safe path. Civilians move slowly, so act patiently and match their pace. If enemies are encountered on the route, quickly deal with them using a sidearm or similar.
5. Rescue Required Number and Extract
   Once all 60 civilians have been evacuated, the primary mission objective is complete. Afterward, rendezvous with the decoy team, and all players extract from the extraction point together.

【Danger Points】

• Executioner Detection: The most dangerous failure pattern is the executioner being spotted by enemies, leading to reinforcements being called into the objective area. The executioner must use jump packs and smoke to avoid detection at all costs.
• Civilian Friendly Fire: Rushed shots or Sentry attacks hitting civilians will instantly kill them. Keep engagements to the absolute minimum required.
• Decoy Team Wipeout: If the decoy team is wiped out, all enemy aggro on the map will instantly shift to the executioner and civilians. The decoy team must prioritize survival above all else.
