Respec Rules: Skills, Mastery Bar, Attributes, and Devotion

Skills and Devotion points can be refunded at a Spirit Guide from the base game onward. Sahdina in Devil's Crossing becomes permanently unavailable once Act 5 begins with Ashes of Malmouth (AoM) installed - Novi at Coven's Refuge takes over afterward. Attributes need a Tonic of Reshaping (AoM-exclusive) and a full Devotion reset needs a Tonic of Clarity (available in the base game) - both are separate consumables, craftable at a Celestial Smith (special smiths encountered from Elite difficulty onward). Mastery bar points cannot be reduced in the base game, but with AoM installed they can be unlearned down to 1 point (your two mastery choices themselves can never be changed).

DO THIS FIRST
  • Want to change your skill build? Go to Spirit Guide Sahdina in Devil's Crossing. Refunds cost Iron per point (the price rises purely with cumulative refund count - it does not decay over time or vary by difficulty).
  • Sahdina unavailable (AoM character past Act 5)? Novi at Coven's Refuge takes over the same role.
  • Want to remove one devotion star? Same Spirit Guide - pay a fee plus an Aether Crystal per refund.
  • Want to reallocate attributes? You need a Tonic of Reshaping (AoM). The Spirit Guide does not handle this.
  • Want to reset all devotion points at once? You need a Tonic of Clarity (available in the base game). As of v1.2.0.0 random drops were removed - get it from a quest reward or by crafting it at a Celestial Smith.
01 / SKILL-POINTS

Skill Points

Spirit Guide Sahdina, found in the upper prison area of Devil's Crossing, refunds points one at a time for Iron.

  • If points are invested in a passive that modifies an active skill, you must unlearn those passive points before you can unlearn the active skill itself.
  • The Iron cost is determined solely by the cumulative refund count tracked separately for skills and Devotion - character level and difficulty do not matter. It does not decay over time either.
  • There is no cap on how many times you can respec skills; only the cost changes. Experimenting is cheapest before your cumulative refund count climbs, not simply "at low level."
  • This does not touch the Mastery Bar itself (see below).
  • With Ashes of Malmouth installed, Sahdina in Devil's Crossing becomes permanently unavailable once you begin Act 5 of the campaign. Novi at Coven's Refuge takes over the same service afterward.
02 / MASTERY-BAR

Mastery Bar and Mastery Choice

Which two masteries you pick and how many points you've put into each mastery bar are governed by different rules.

  • Your two-mastery combination is permanent the moment you commit to it - no method in the game can change it afterward.
  • In the base game alone, you cannot remove any points already invested in a Mastery Bar.
  • With Ashes of Malmouth installed, you can unlearn Mastery Bar points down to a minimum of 1 (not 0 - the mastery itself remains selected).
  • If you're unsure about a second mastery, staying on your first mastery alone until level 10 is the safe way to keep options open.
03 / ATTRIBUTES

Attribute Points (Physique / Cunning / Spirit)

The Spirit Guide does not handle this. You need a dedicated Ashes of Malmouth consumable: the Tonic of Reshaping.

  • Using a Tonic of Reshaping unassigns every attribute point you've spent, letting you redistribute them immediately.
  • As of v1.2.0.0 it no longer appears in random loot tables; obtain it from a quest reward or by crafting it at a Celestial Smith (no blueprint needed - they already know the recipe).
  • Celestial Smiths are specialized blacksmith NPCs encountered on Elite difficulty and above (the expansion is not required, though some of them reside in AoM areas).
  • It's a single-use consumable, so keeping a spare makes it easier to change plans later.
  • See individual build pages for attribute priorities - when in doubt, leaning Physique is a safe default.
04 / DEVOTION

Devotion Respec

Refunding one point at a time uses the Spirit Guide; a full reset uses a Tonic of Clarity - two different methods.

  • At the Spirit Guide, paying a fee plus an Aether Crystal refunds Devotion points one at a time (per the official guide).
  • Experience already accrued on a refunded celestial power (devotion proc) is retained.
  • IMPORTANT: you cannot refund a point if doing so would drop your affinity below what another currently-completed constellation requires - the game blocks the refund.
  • The one exception: if a constellation's own affinity reward alone satisfies its own requirement, you can refund the crossroad/constellation points that unlocked it.
  • Resetting every Devotion point at once requires a Tonic of Clarity. As of v1.2.0.0 it no longer drops as loot; obtain it from a quest reward or by crafting it at a Celestial Smith.
