Devotion Basics and Refunding

Devotion is a growth system separate from your masteries. Restore or cleanse Devotion Shrines across the world for devotion points (capped at 50 in the base game, 55 with Ashes of Malmouth), spend them on stars to build up the five Affinity colors, and unlock higher constellations. Celestial Powers (procs) only trigger once bound to one of your skills or pets. Refunds happen one point at a time at the Spirit Guide (fee plus an Aether Crystal) - but the game blocks any refund that would drop your affinity below what another maintained constellation requires.

DO THIS FIRST
  • Want more points? Hunt shrines on the map: Ruined ones take material offerings, Desecrated ones spawn enemy waves to clear - one point each. There are more shrines than the cap, so you never need them all.
  • Fastest route to the cap? With FG installed, Normal alone has 49 shrines and early Elite pushes you to 55. Base game only: Normal+Elite total 45, so reaching the 50 cap requires Ultimate shrines too.
  • Can't take a constellation? Not enough affinity. Farm it via Crossroads and low-requirement constellations first - affinity is never spent, you only need to meet the requirement.
  • Proc not firing? The classic mistake is forgetting to bind it. Celestial Powers only trigger once assigned to a skill or pet.
  • Want to respec? The Spirit Guide refunds one point at a time (fee plus an Aether Crystal). A full reset takes a Tonic of Clarity - see the related Respec article for the procedure and where to get one.
01 / SHRINES

Shrines and the Point Cap

Shrines are the source of devotion points. Only AoM raises the cap; FG instead adds many more shrine locations.

  • The cap is 50 in the base game and 55 with AoM installed. FG does not raise the cap further.
  • Shrine counts (per the Japanese Wiki): base game only, Normal 28 / Elite 17 / Ultimate 14 (59 total); with AoM, Normal 33 / Elite 20 / Ultimate 20 (73 total); with FG, Normal 49 / Elite 52 / Ultimate 59 (160 total) - a large surplus.
  • Ruined shrines are restored by offering the listed materials. Ultimate's material costs were greatly reduced in v1.1.4.0.
  • Desecrated shrines spawn waves of enemies when activated; kill them all to cleanse the shrine - no materials needed.
  • Because shrines outnumber the cap, you can freely skip Ruined shrines with expensive material costs.
02 / AFFINITY

Affinity and Unlocking Constellations

Affinity comes in five colors and accumulates as you spend points on stars. Crucially, it is a threshold - never spent.

  • The five colors: Ascendant, Chaos, Eldritch, Order, and Primordial.
  • Every constellation except the central Crossroads requires affinity before you can invest points in it.
  • Affinity comes from Crossroads stars and from completion bonuses of finished constellations - it never decreases while the points stay invested.
  • Affinity is not consumed: multiple constellations can share the same pool to meet their requirements.
  • The standard opening is to use Crossroads as scaffolding for affinity, then refund the scaffold once your key constellations are complete - but whether the refund works depends on each constellation's numbers (the devotion routes on our build pages are verified for this).
  • 'Self-sufficiency' is a per-constellation, conditional property: only when a completed constellation's own granted affinity covers its own requirement can its scaffold be removed safely. It does not hold when the grant is smaller than the requirement (e.g. Blades of Nadaan requires Ascendant 10 but grants only Ascendant 3 + Order 2), so always check that your remaining affinity satisfies every maintained constellation before refunding.
03 / CELESTIAL-POWERS

Binding Celestial Powers (Procs)

  • Celestial Powers sit on the top stars of constellations and do nothing until bound - assign each to one of your skills or pets to activate it.
  • A power can only be bound to skills matching its trigger type (on-attack, on-being-hit, buffs, and so on).
  • Powers level up from experience earned while bound. Refunding devotion points preserves the experience a power has already accumulated.
  • Bound to a pet, a power triggers off the pet's actions and scales for pets.
04 / REFUND

Refund Restrictions

Point-by-point refunds happen at the Spirit Guide - but affinity dependencies can block them.

  • At the Spirit Guide, each refunded point costs a fee plus one Aether Crystal.
  • IMPORTANT: you cannot refund a point if doing so would drop your affinity below what another maintained constellation requires - the game blocks it.
  • The exception applies only when self-sufficiency holds: if - and only if - a constellation's own granted affinity satisfies its own requirement, the crossroad/constellation that unlocked it can be refunded (this is not true of every constellation).
  • Before a major rework, map out which constellations depend on which affinity - the wrong order can leave you stuck mid-refund.
  • Rebuilding all points at once takes a Tonic of Clarity - see the related Respec article for acquisition and the other respec options.
