Farming Aether Crystals: Crystal-Cluster Loops
Aether Crystals are a crafting material collectible from early in the base game, gathered mainly by smashing the crystal formations that grow in Aether-corrupted areas. No full-clearing needed - memorize the cluster spots and break them as you pass through. The base-game staple runs from Homestead toward the Conflagration; after reaching AoM, Malmouth Outskirts loops join the rotation. Blacksmith recipes also convert them into higher materials and Dynamite, so surplus pickups rarely go to waste. Selling is forbidden - centralize them in the shared stash.

CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE
- ▸Short on Aether Crystals? Loop the crystal formations in Aether-corrupted zones - enemies can be ignored.
- ▸Early game: memorize cluster spots while progressing from Burrwitch toward Warden's Laboratory.
- ▸For a dedicated loop, run from Homestead toward the Conflagration, breaking clusters, then main menu and a new session to reset.
- ▸Don't sweat surplus: blacksmith recipes convert crystals into higher materials and Dynamite, so deeper stock means easier crafting. Never sell - stash it.
01 / WHAT-AND-WHERE
What Aether Crystals are
A staple material consumed from early to endgame - and its source is fixed: crystals in Aether-corrupted zones.
- ▸Aether Crystals are a crafting material available from early in the base game, repeatedly consumed by component crafting and shrine restorations.
- ▸The main source is the crystal formations growing in Aether-corrupted zones - smash the clusters and pick up, with almost no damage requirement.
- ▸Blacksmith recipes also convert them into higher materials and Dynamite, so overshooting your immediate need rarely wastes effort.
- ▸The higher-tier Aether Shard is a separate item - read recipe requirements carefully to keep them apart.
- ▸As with every crafting material, selling is forbidden (see Crafting Material Routes).
02 / BASE-ROUTES
Base-game routes
- ▸Early game: crystal clusters line the path from Burrwitch toward Warden's Laboratory - learn the spots while progressing and break them every pass.
- ▸The staple loop: from the Homestead rift toward the Conflagration, smashing clusters through the corrupted zone, then main menu and a new session at the route's end to reset.
- ▸Enemies can mostly be ignored, though Aetherial heroes spawning near crystals are worth killing for extra drop chances.
- ▸Port Valbury promises big hauls but is a rogue-like dungeon needing travel, Dynamite, and a Skeleton Key - prefer short surface loops when crystals are the only goal.
03 / AOM-ROUTES
AoM-era routes
- ▸Post-AoM option 1: from the Malmouth Outskirts rift toward the shrine, collecting clusters through the corruption and turning back.
- ▸Option 2: the Outskirts-to-Mourndale crossing - dense clusters that pair naturally with leveling.
- ▸The AoM belt overlaps with endgame-adjacent leveling and reputation work, so 'always break what you pass' beats dedicated loops here.
- ▸Whatever the route, end by returning to the main menu and starting a new session to reset.
04 / MANAGE
Managing the stock
- ▸Centralize pickups in the shared stash - crafting can draw from it, so every character shares the pool.
- ▸Even early characters can farm this, making it a good filler when your main's gear progress stalls.
- ▸Shrine restorations can suddenly demand a batch - build the habit of checking stash stock before looping.
- ▸Per-lap yield is random with no guarantees. Leave money and XP to other farming and keep this loop focused on the material (see Early Game Money).
Per-lap yield varies with random generation, so none is guaranteed. This page splits and expands the Aether Crystal section of the Crafting Material Routes pilot article.
