Pathfinder: WotR Legend Mythic Path Unlock and Level 40 Builds
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is not a seasonal game. The latest major DLC, "A Dance of Masks," was released on May 13, 2024. The latest major patch is version 2.5.0, mainly focusing on DLC-related bug fixes and adjustments to existing Mythic Paths (such as Gold Dragon). This article is based on information current as of June 17, 2026.
In Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, you confront hordes of demons with the aid of divine powers. However, there is a path that dares to abandon these Mythic powers, pursuing the full potential of a mortal. This is the hidden Mythic Path, "Legend." This article thoroughly explains the journey to becoming a hero who surpasses human limits, achieving exceptional growth with a level cap of 40.
Legend: Overview of the Hero Who Renounced Mythic Power
| Unlock Conditions | At the start of Act 5, choose to renounce Mythic power during dialogue with Queen Iomedae (no prior special quest is required) |
|---|---|
| Alignment Requirements | None (can be chosen by all alignments) |
| Key Abilities | ・Character level cap is increased from 20 to 40 ・Permanent +4 bonus to all 6 ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, etc.) ・Mythic Rank stops at 2 |
The Legend is a unique path that sets itself apart from other Mythic Paths. Instead of enhancing Mythic power, you renounce it to break through the limits of mortal growth. This enables highly flexible character builds impossible with other paths, truly making it a path for experts that tests a player's build-crafting abilities.
Legend Unlock Conditions and Selection Timing
Unlike many other hidden paths, the way to Legend does not require completing specific quests. The door opens to all players as the story progresses.
Final Decision in Act 5
The moment to finalize the Legend path occurs immediately after the start of Act 5, when your Mythic Rank reaches 8. A dialogue event with Queen Iomedae, one of the primary deities of Golarion, will trigger, where the player chooses an option to "renounce Mythic power and continue fighting as a mortal." Making this decision officially initiates the Legend path.
Laying the Groundwork - Choices from Act 3
While the final decision is in Act 5, previous actions can influence the difficulty of the choice. Especially from Act 3 onwards, dialogue options tagged with [Legend] may appear, emphasizing human strength and will rather than relying on Mythic power. Actively choosing these options will make the check (DC) during the dialogue with Iomedae in Act 5 easier, allowing for a smoother acceptance of the Legend path. This serves as a role-playing flag, indicating that your character has consistently sought a mortal path.
Caution: Nocti***cula's "Unclean Gift"
The greatest obstacle to choosing Legend can be Nocti***cula's "Unclean Gift," bestowed by the demon lord in Act 4. If you accept this powerful bonus, Mythic power that impedes the Legend path will become deeply ingrained in your body. Therefore, during the dialogue with Iomedae, you must succeed on a very difficult Will saving throw (DC 35) to cast off this power. Failure means you cannot become a Legend. However, this check is alleviated under specific conditions. If you are following the Demon path and are in a romance with Alyssara, her help will lower the difficulty of this check.
Legend's Abilities and Features
In exchange for renouncing Mythic power, the Legend receives unique and powerful benefits not found in other paths. These manifest as "breaking the limits of mortals."
Superhuman Stats
The greatest feature of the Legend is that the character level cap becomes 40. This allows for extreme multi-classing, such as leveling a Fighter to 20, and then another class, like Rogue, to 20. Additionally, a permanent +4 bonus is applied to all ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma). This bonus significantly boosts the character's base performance, providing benefits in all aspects, including attacks, defenses, and skill (distinguished from feat / class feature) checks.
Loss and Retention of Mythic Abilities
Upon becoming a Legend, Mythic Rank progression stops at Rank 2. Consequently, all powerful Mythic abilities (or explicitly stated as feats / class features) and Mythic Spell Slots gained from Mythic Rank 3 onwards are lost. However, abilities acquired at Mythic Ranks 1 and 2 are retained. Understanding this specification and knowing which Mythic abilities to acquire at Ranks 1 and 2 becomes a crucial factor in determining the foundation of a Legend build.
- Unlocking the Level 40 Cap: Having twice the normal level allows for combining immense Hit Points (HP), a high base attack bonus, a vast number of feats, and powerful advanced abilities from multiple classes.
- Permanent +4 Bonus to All Ability Scores: This "inherent bonus" stacks with other enhancement effects, drastically boosting final stats. It particularly shines in builds that rely on multiple ability scores.
- Retention of Mythic Rank 1 & 2 Abilities: By acquiring versatile and powerful abilities like Last Stand and essential ones for transformation builds like Master Shapeshifter beforehand, these will merge with your level 40 character power, yielding tremendous effects.
Legend Strategy and Recommended Builds
The overwhelming freedom of a level cap of 40 offers players infinite possibilities for build creation. Here, we introduce an example and the basic concepts of build crafting.
Core Build Strategy
The core of a Legend build is "maximizing synergy through multi-classing." Instead of leveling a single class to 40, the basic approach is to combine two or more classes to layer their strengths and compensate for weaknesses. For instance, you can create a dream-like character with two powerful capstone abilities obtained from two different classes at level 20.
Compatible Classes/Builds and Recommended Mythic Feats
- Examples of Compatible Classes/Builds:
・Sword Saint (Magus) 20 / Duelist 10 / Vivisectionist (Alchemist) 10: This build maximizes the ability to convert Intelligence (INT) into damage and AC (Armor Class), augmented with self-buffs from mutagens, resulting in an attacker with extremely high damage and evasion.
・Mutation Warrior (Fighter) 20 / Barbarian 10 / Slayer 8 / etc...: A physical attacker build that gains base attack bonuses and extra attacks from multiple classes to maximize attacks per round. When combined with items, equipment, and Spell Slots components, it deals tremendous damage.
・Crusader (Cleric) 20 / Loremaster 10 / Hellknight Signifer 10: A versatile build that combines caster level and physical combat ability, fighting with divine spells and powerful melee attacks. - Recommended Mythic Feats (Acquire at Ranks 1 & 2):
・Last Stand: The strongest defensive ability that is useful in any build. You can continue fighting for several rounds even after taking lethal damage.
・Limitless Rage: Essential if you incorporate a rage class into your build; it makes rage permanent.
・Mythic Rapid Shot / Mythic Two-Weapon Fighting: Reduces penalties for ranged attack and two-weapon fighting builds, boosting damage.
・Mythic Improved Critical: Drastically increases the damage of physical attackers.
Impact on the Story
Choosing the Legend path also alters the story's conclusion to a unique one. The protagonist rejects divine intervention and interference, instead acting as a representative of mortals, closing the "Worldwound" with their companions. This is a very classic and moving heroic tale, where destiny is forged not by bestowed power, but by self-honed strength and the bonds of camaraderie. Special branches in conversations with certain companions and in the Multiple Endings are also prepared, mentioning the protagonist's status as a Legend.
Summary
Although the Mythic Path "Legend" lacks flashy Mythic abilities, it possesses a unique appeal unmatched by any other path in terms of character build freedom and pure character power. This path is highly recommended for players who enjoy contemplating complex multi-class synergies or those who prefer role-playing as someone who carves their own destiny without relying on divine power. While it is a choice made in the late stages of the story, in Act 5, planning your adventures up to that point with the "Legend" goal in mind can also be a major way to enjoy this game.
