How to Choose and Switch Splinters of Evil
Choose Terror, Destruction, or Hatred according to the activity you plan to run next. This patch 3.2.1 guide maps each Splinter to its activities, iconic power, honor track, and switching requirement.
Choose Terror for Helltides or Infernal Hordes, Destruction for Kurast Undercity or Lair Bosses, and Hatred for the Pit or Nightmare Dungeons. Every Splinter supports Whispers, so Whispers alone do not require a switch.
Three Splinters and Their Activities
3Splinter of Terror: Diablo
Supports Helltides and Infernal Hordes. Diablo's iconic power periodically deals Fire damage during combat.
Splinter of Destruction: Baal
Supports Kurast Undercity and Lair Bosses. Baal's iconic power periodically deals Cold damage during combat.
Splinter of Hatred: Mephisto
Supports the Pit and Nightmare Dungeons. Mephisto's iconic power periodically deals Physical damage during combat.

41. Collect All Three in the Questline
Defeat Diablo beneath Tristram Cathedral, Baal at Arreat Summit, and Mephisto in the Durance of Hate to collect all three Splinters.
2. Bear One Splinter for Your Next Activity
Only one Splinter of Evil can be active. Base the choice on your next activity rather than treating one Splinter as permanent for a build.
3. Advance Honor and War Plans
Build Honor in the associated activities, then use War Plans to unlock activity modifiers and upgrades for the iconic power.
4. Switch in the Largest Waking Nightmare
To move to another honor track and its rewards, obtain a different Splinter of Evil in the largest Waking Nightmare.

4Helltides and Infernal Hordes: Terror
Choose Terror when the session centers on Helltides or repeated Infernal Horde runs.
Undercity and Boss Farming: Destruction
Choose Destruction for sessions built around Kurast Undercity and Lair Bosses. Boss efficiency still depends on keys and clear time.
Pit and Nightmare Dungeons: Hatred
Choose Hatred for Pit pushes or a block of Nightmare Dungeon runs.
Whispers: Keep the Current Splinter
All three Splinters support Whispers. Keep the current Splinter unless the paired activity also changes.
How Progression and Rewards Work
3Eight Activity Modifiers per Honor Track
Each Splinter's honor track contains eight modifiers for its associated activities. Use the in-game track for exact values and unlock order.
Six Upgrades for Each Iconic Power
Each iconic Diablo, Baal, or Mephisto power has six upgrades.
Switching Also Selects a Reward Track
A different Splinter selects a different honor track and reward path. Blizzard's overview does not specify how existing progress is retained across switches, so this guide does not make that claim.
Iconic Powers and Their Risk
2The Power Triggers Periodically in Combat
Terror deals Fire, Destruction deals Cold, and Hatred deals Physical damage. The official overview does not publish exact intervals or multipliers.
You Become Vulnerable to the Matching Prime Evil
Bearing a Splinter makes you vulnerable to its matching Prime Evil. Account for that drawback when fighting the corresponding boss.
Common Mistakes
4- You cannot activate all three Splinters of Evil at once.
- Splinters of Evil select honor and activities. They are separate from the Soul Splinters equipped in up to three Jewelry slots.
- Whispers are not exclusive to one Splinter; all three support them.
- Do not treat unpublished hourly yields, fixed trigger intervals, or switch-progress retention as confirmed mechanics.
