Solo Self-Found: Setup, Restrictions, and Build Guide

A live patch 3.1.1 guide to creating a Season 14 Solo Self-Found character, understanding shared progression and unavailable features, planning the season rollover, and choosing a build that works with self-found gear.

Verified patch: 3.1.1Seasonal onlyVerified: 2026-07-23Permanent during season
BEFORE CHARACTER CREATION

Solo Self-Found is a Seasonal character state enabled with a toggle during character creation. It supports Normal or Hardcore, but that character cannot leave SSF during the season and cannot party or trade. If uncertain, create a standard Seasonal character; in SSF, prioritize a build that starts without mandatory Uniques and can pivot around the gear you actually find.

SETUP

Five Steps to Start Solo Self-Found

STEP 01

1. Create a New Seasonal Character

SSF cannot be added to an existing Eternal character. Begin from new character creation for Season 14.

STEP 02

2. Confirm Class and Expansion Ownership

The five base-game classes remain available; owned expansions add their classes and systems. Current builds are expansion-first, but never assume access to content you do not own.

3. Choose Normal or Hardcore

SSF supports both modes and separates their Tower leaderboards. Hardcore adds permanent-death risk, so use Normal as the default for a first attempt.

4. Enable the SSF Toggle

Enable Solo Self-Found on the character creation screen. It is not a setting that can be applied to a character afterward.

5. Accept the Lock Before Creating

Review party, trade, sharing, and activity restrictions. Because the state cannot be removed mid-season, keep a separate standard Seasonal character if you may play with friends.

RULES

Five Restrictions to Check First

5

No Parties

You cannot join another player's party, receive leveling carries, or pool boss runs. Choose difficulties and activities you can complete yourself.

Solo Self-Found

No Trading

Other players cannot supply missing Uniques, materials, or currency. Plan around fallback Legendaries and acquisition activities rather than one desired item name.

Sharing Stays Inside SSF

SSF characters on the same account share their stash, currencies, Paragon, and related progress with one another. Standard Seasonal and Eternal assets do not enter that pool.

Solo Self-Found

Some Features Are Unavailable

The Free Trial, couch co-op, and Dark Citadel are unavailable in SSF. A standard character is required if Dark Citadel is part of your plans.

Locked for the Season

The choice cannot be removed during the season. At season end, the character becomes a standard Eternal character and regains party and trade access.

The Open World Is Not Offline

SSF is not an offline mode. Other players may still appear in public spaces such as Helltides and World Boss encounters, but you cannot form a party with them.

Seasonal Progression Still Applies

Progress Season 14 quests, Season Rank, Ruptures, and other eligible content yourself. Exclude party sync and pooled-run efficiency from the plan.

The Tower Has SSF Boards

The Tower has dedicated SSF Normal and SSF Hardcore leaderboards. Do not compare those results with standard-character economy or party records.

Progress Before Placement

Separate Tower participation and Tier 100 progression from placement rewards. Until gear matures, prioritize Season Rank and self-farming rather than a fixed placement target.

BUILD FIT

Five Traits of an SSF-Friendly Build

5

Starts Without Mandatory Uniques

Begin with a setup that levels and enters early endgame on Legendary Aspects and ordinary gear. Treat Uniques as later upgrades, not the condition for starting.

Can Pivot Around Drops

Avoid locking into one final form. Choose a route that can pivot around acquired Uniques, Talismans, and Runes, using each guide's leveling and transition sections first.

Self-Contained Defense and Recovery

Do not assume ally support; supply Armor, Resistances, Life, reduction, control recovery, and sustain yourself. In Hardcore, secure the defensive floor before offensive upgrades.

Solo Self-Found

Handles Farming and Bosses

Before multiple gear sets are ready, a build that handles both area farming and single-target bosses stabilizes material income. Apply Tower-specific tuning after the baseline gear is complete.

Keeps Expansion Endgame and Fallbacks

Use the current expansion-first endgame form with owned Runes, Mercenaries, Talismans, and related systems, while retaining a low-dependency or base-game fallback until those pieces drop.

SELF-FOUND PLAN

Four Ways to Keep Self-Found Progress Moving

4

Start From the Leveling Version

Do not require completed endgame gear up front. Transition from the class leveling guide and establish the core Aspect, resource loop, and defense in that order.

Solo Self-Found

Keep Transition Pieces

Keep reusable Uniques, strong Ancestral bases, and Talisman pieces in the SSF stash. Because other SSF characters share it, do not salvage solely around the current build.

Evolve the Loot Filter

Do not filter only for final gear at the start; retain transition affixes and fallback items. Tighten rules as the build matures and verify that needed materials remain visible.

Choose the Final Build After Drops

Do not assume a named Mythic or completed set before it drops. Move toward the endgame build closest to your actual inventory, without planning around unpublished rates or fixed run counts.

CAUTION

Irreversible Misreads to Avoid

6
  • Do not expect to convert an existing character into SSF; the state is selected during character creation.
  • Do not expect to remove SSF mid-season; normal party and trade access returns only after the season rollover to Eternal.
  • Do not describe SSF as fully offline; other players may remain visible in public open-world activities.
  • Do not expect standard Seasonal stash, currency, or Paragon to enter SSF; sharing is limited to SSF characters.
  • Do not plan to use Dark Citadel or couch co-op later; create a separate standard character for those features.
  • Do not promise an official SSF drop-rate bonus; the Season 14 announcement guarantees no extra loot modifier.
LIVE UPDATE

Live Season 14 and Patch 3.1.1 Notes

3
  • Season 14 introduced Solo Self-Found as a character state for Seasonal Normal and Hardcore characters.
  • The Tower added dedicated Solo Self-Found and Hardcore Solo Self-Found filters and leaderboards.
  • Patch 3.1.1 fixed the SSF icon sometimes missing from the Friends list; it did not change the rules or add a loot modifier.
