Loot Filter Guide: Goal-Based Rules Without Missed Drops

Configure the all-player Loot Filter safely with recolors first, then tighten it for leveling, endgame transition, Codex upgrades, Greater Affixes, specific Uniques, and Talismans.

QUICK ANSWER

Do not begin with a broad Hide All rule. Put wanted gear in higher Show or Recolor rules and unwanted gear in lower Hide rules. Higher rules win, one filter supports up to 25 rules, and only one filter runs at a time. Hidden dropped gear cannot be picked up until the filter is toggled off, so audit with the toggle key. Non-gear drops such as reagents, gems, currency, and Temper manuals are outside the filter.

SAFE SETUP

Five Steps to Prevent Missed Drops

5
STEP 01

1. Create It from Options

Open Options > Gameplay > Loot Filter and create a clearly named filter. Enable its Game Menu shortcut if useful.

STEP 02

2. Bind the Toggle First

Bind Toggle Loot Filter under Options > Controls. It is the safety switch that reveals hidden ground items and makes them collectible again.

Loot Filter
STEP 03

3. Start with Recolor Only

Recolor key affixes, Codex upgrades, Greater Affixes, and target Uniques, then verify matches on drops, inventory, stash, and vendors.

STEP 04

4. Put Wanted Gear Above

Place Show or Recolor exceptions above broad Hide rules. Higher rules override lower rules, so order is part of the filter logic.

STEP 05

5. Add Hides One Stage at a Time

Do not hide low rarity, low Item Power, and non-Ancestral gear all at once. Toggle-check after each condition and loosen rules during gear transitions.

Loot Filter
ACTIONS

Three Visibility Actions

3

Recolor

Highlight matching gear on the ground, in inventory or stash, while equipped, and on vendors. This is the safest action for testing a new condition.

Loot Filter

Show

Use this as an exception that overrides lower Hide rules in the same filter. Gear is shown by default, so a standalone Show rule is usually unnecessary.

Loot Filter

Hide Text Label or Hide All

Hide matching ground gear and prevent pickup until the filter is toggled off. Matching items remain visible in inventory, stash, and vendor stock.

Loot Filter
CONDITIONS

How to Use the Ten Official Conditions

10

Item Power Range

Split candidates by minimum or maximum power. During progression, leave room for the next difficulty and transitional slots instead of locking to current gear.

Loot Filter

Item Rarity Match

Match Common, Magic, Rare, and other rarities. Since 3.0 makes low rarities useful Cube bases, confirm their purpose before hiding them globally.

Loot FilterHoradric Cube

Item Properties

Choose None or Ancestral, mainly to separate non-Ancestral items. Just after entering Torment, avoid hiding every non-Ancestral fallback.

Loot Filter

Codex Upgrade Check

Show or recolor gear whose Legendary Aspect upgrades the Codex. Keep this as a broad exception while leveling or returning.

Loot FilterCodex of Power

Greater Affix Check

Match gear with one to four Greater Affixes. Count alone does not make a finished item, so combine it with required affixes or item type.

Loot Filter

Item Type Match

Match slots such as Sword, Staff, Chest, or Gloves. Use it for temporary recolor rules on the slots a build currently needs.

Loot Filter

Has Required Affixes

Require affixes the build must have. Recheck the live matching explanation when combining entries and begin with one or two requirements.

Loot Filter

Has Optional Affixes

Add nice-to-have affixes. Keep them separate from required affixes so the candidate pool is not narrowed too aggressively.

Loot Filter

Is Specific Unique

Match a specific Unique or Mythic, especially when a boss drops several Uniques for the same slot.

Talisman Set Bonus

Match Set Charms. This Lord of Hatred condition uses choices available to the current class.

PRESETS

6

Leveling: No Hides

Recolor Codex upgrades, core affixes, and usable weapon types at the top. Keep lower rarity and power visible because they can become Cube bases or transition gear.

Fresh Level 70: Highlight Upgrade Slots

Recolor weak slots with needed affixes and keep Codex upgrades above them. Delay a global non-Ancestral hide until the whole loadout stabilizes.

Endgame Farm: Exceptions Above Broad Hides

Show or recolor Greater Affixes, Codex upgrades, and target slots above progressively broader low-power, rarity, or non-Ancestral hides.

Boss Farm: Specific Unique at the Top

Recolor the target Unique or Mythic at the top while keeping other same-slot and Unique drops visible. Avoid hiding an unowned alternative by mistake.

Talisman Farm: Temporary Set Rules

Recolor the main set and missing Charms. Add class-specific choices on that class, then disable the temporary rule after completing the set.

Solo Self-Found: Keep Wider Fallbacks

Keep one required affix, Codex upgrades, and transition slots instead of filtering only finished gear. Materials are unaffected, but low-rarity Cube bases can still be hidden if rules are too strict.

PRIORITY

A Five-Layer Top-to-Bottom Order

5
STEP 01

1. Never-Hide Targets

Put specific Uniques or Mythics, needed sets, and Codex upgrades at the top with Show or a strong recolor.

Loot FilterUnique ItemMythic UniqueCodex of Power
STEP 02

2. Broad High-Value Candidates

Recolor Greater Affixes, Ancestral gear, and currently needed slots. Judge final quality after pickup.

Loot Filter
STEP 03

3. Required and Optional Affixes

Separate required affixes above optional affixes and add conditions while watching how many candidates remain.

Loot Filter
STEP 04

4. Temporary Farming Exceptions

Use temporary rules for a boss, slot, alt class, or set completion, then uncheck them when the goal is complete.

Loot Filter
STEP 05

5. Broad Hide Rules

Place low-power, unwanted rarity, and non-Ancestral hides at the bottom. Use the toggle to verify that higher exceptions still work.

Loot Filter
BOUNDARIES

Eight Easy-to-Miss Boundaries

8
  • The Loot Filter changes gear visibility, not drop rate, quality, or generation.
  • Hidden ground gear cannot be picked up; toggle the filter off or disable the condition first.
  • Non-gear items such as reagents, gems, currency, and Temper manuals are unaffected.
  • Higher rules win; a broad Hide at the top prevents lower Show exceptions from overriding it.
  • A filter supports up to 25 rules and only one filter runs at once; do not assume multiple filters are merged.
  • Class-specific Unique and Talisman choices depend on the current class; edit alt targets on that class.
  • Before enabling an imported code, audit its order, Hide scope, class, and patch against your own goal.
  • Patch 3.1.1 fixed Ring of Starless Skies not appearing correctly as a Ring; do not preserve old workarounds as required steps.

Four Steps for Saving and Sharing

4
STEP 01

Name the Goal and Patch

Use a name such as S14 Endgame Ancestral Audit so purpose and update era are clearer than a character name alone.

Loot FilterSeason of Death Awakening
STEP 02

Temporarily Disable Rules

Before duplicating the whole filter, try unchecking only the temporary rules you no longer need.

Loot Filter
STEP 03

Save the Export Code

Use the selected filter's three-dot menu > Export, then store the copied code with its goal, class, patch, and date.

Loot Filter
STEP 04

Audit Imports Without Hides First

Paste through New Filter > Import, temporarily disable broad Hides, and verify Recolor and Show exceptions first.

LIVE UPDATE

Current Patch 3.1.1 Checks

4
  • The Loot Filter arrived in Patch 3.0.0 as a permanent all-player feature and does not require Lord of Hatred.
  • It works in Seasonal and Eternal realms, while filtered items such as Talismans retain their own DLC and class requirements.
  • The current official design supports up to 25 top-priority rules, one active filter, ten conditions, Show/Hide/Recolor, and import/export.
  • Patch 3.1.1 fixed Ring of Starless Skies not appearing correctly as a Ring in the Loot Filter.
