Dread Claws Warlock Leveling Build
A level 1–70 setup that generates Wrath with Command Fallen and clears packs with Dread Claws. From level 30, it adds the Mastermind Shard, Laalish, and Lord of Hatred Talismans, Runewords, and Mercenaries as they unlock.
Why This Is the Beginner Baseline
2Strengths
- Dread Claws chains through packs while Terror Swarm and Profane Sentinel concentrate damage on tougher targets.
- No Unique is required; the route works by improving Wrath generation and Abyss/Demonology skill ranks.
- The completed six-skill bar transitions cleanly into a Dread Claws endgame archetype at level 70.
Limitations
- Single-target fights require layering the summon skills; Dread Claws alone can make them drag.
- Shadowform and Laalish are unavailable before the class mechanic unlock, so the loop changes at level 30.
- Warlock itself requires Lord of Hatred, so this setup cannot be reproduced with the base game alone.
Final Six-Skill Setup
6Target Rank is the base-skill goal at level 70; spend remaining points on the chosen branch modifiers as they unlock.
Command Fallen
Basic Wrath generator; recast sends the Fallen charging and helps apply Hex through the Blasphemous Fragment.
Dread Claws
Main Core attack; the Cascading Dread variant improves chained pack clearing.
Terror Swarm
Ultimate summon layered onto tougher targets for sustained pressure against packs and bosses.
Profane Sentinel
Greater Demon summon spending Dominance; its beam supports single-target damage and Vulnerable.
Nether Step
Defensive mobility and escape tool; with Mastermind it enters Shadowform and empowers the next Dread Claws sequence.
Command Laalish
Command skill granted by the Mastermind Shard, supporting the Shadowform and Abyss-damage loop.
Soul Shards
3Setup checklist
- At level 30, complete the Forbidden Disciple class quest, choose the Mastermind Shard, and unlock Command Laalish.
- Select the Blasphemous Fragment. Command Fallen recasts apply Hex and connect the loop to Abyss and Demonology attacks.
- Enter Shadowform through Nether Step or Laalish, reposition, then cast Dread Claws. Recasts spend stacks, so use them deliberately for both safety and damage setup.
Lord of Hatred Leveling Setup
3Talisman
- During leveling, prioritize a Seal with more Charm Slots, then secure experience and Movement Speed bonuses first.
- Then add Attack Speed, Abyss/Demonology/Core ranks, Maximum Life, and Resistances when available.
- Do not lock in weak Charms merely for a set bonus; prioritize strong individual upgrades until level 70.
Runewords
- Use Angu + Que to generate Offering from crowd control and invoke Earthen Bulwark for a Barrier.
- Nagu + Jah builds Offering from maintained summons and replaces Evade with Teleport for mobility; keep normal Evade if the replacement feels worse.
- Use ordinary Gems until roughly level 45 while gear changes rapidly, avoiding repeated socketing costs.
Mercenary
- Hire Subo for map scouting, Movement Speed, and Vulnerable support during farming and single-target fights.
- Use Aldkin's Fields of Languish as Reinforcement at the start of tougher fights to reduce incoming damage.
- Before Subo unlocks, use Aldkin's Haunt; the six-skill leveling order remains unchanged before Mercenaries are available.
Warlock requires Lord of Hatred. Without the expansion, this build and its Soul Shards cannot be reproduced; choose a base-game class guide instead.
Level-by-Level Priorities
4Establish Wrath generation and Dread Claws
- Take Command Fallen, then prioritize Dread Claws as soon as it unlocks. Return to the Basic attack before Wrath empties.
- Add Nether Step early and use it to leave dangerous zones or move into the next pack.
Add summons for single-target damage
- Add Profane Sentinel and place it on tougher targets. Save Dominance for elites instead of spending it on trivial packs.
- Add Terror Swarm at level 22. Until the class mechanic unlocks, use a support skill such as Sigil of Subversion in the sixth slot.
Connect Mastermind and Laalish
- Prioritize the class quest, equip Mastermind plus Blasphemous, and replace the temporary skill with Command Laalish.
- Raise Dread Claws, Terror Swarm, Profane Sentinel, then Command Fallen, adding unlocked Talismans, Runewords, and Mercenaries.
Stabilize speed, Wrath, and defenses
- Finish the four primary skills, then raise Nether Step to 8. Command Laalish remains at 1 because it is a granted skill.
- Improve Attack Speed, Willpower, resource generation, and Movement Speed while rejecting upgrades that break Armor, Resistance, or Maximum Life needs.
Simple Combat Loop
4- Use Nether Step to reposition and enter Shadowform, then clear ordinary packs with Dread Claws.
- When Wrath falls, use Command Fallen and recast when needed to trigger the charge and apply Hex.
- Against elites and bosses, layer Profane Sentinel, Laalish, then Terror Swarm.
- Avoid dangerous attacks with Nether Step, reset Wrath and summon cooldowns, then return to Dread Claws.
Use Hard as the baseline and lower to Normal for Wrath droughts, repeated deaths, or long elite fights. Prioritize uninterrupted clearing over a nominal experience modifier.
What to Keep While Leveling
3Affix priorities
- Prioritize Weapon Damage and Item Power while leveling, frequently upgrading a strong one-hand weapon and off-hand.
- For offense and comfort, prioritize Willpower, Attack Speed, Abyss/Demonology/Core ranks, resource generation, Cooldown Reduction, and Movement Speed.
- Refill Maximum Life, Armor, and All Resistances after gear swaps; do not break defensive needs for a damage affix.
Helpful Aspects—not requirements
No Unique is required. Avoid overspending rare materials on low-level gear; Warlock Aspect names without current Japanese verification remain in English.
Safe Alternatives
3Adjust without breaking the build
- For a demon-form focus, Icy Veins' Abyss Rampage route is separate; swap Rampage, Sigil of Subversion, and the Fragment package together instead of mixing them into Dread Claws.
- For a fire-and-wall playstyle, Mobalytics' Blazing Scream route is an alternative; treat it as a separate, terrain-dependent setup.
- If defenses are weak, prioritize Juggernaut's and Might over offensive Aspects, reserve Nether Step for danger, and lower difficulty one step.
