Quill Volley Spiritborn Leveling Build
A level 1–70 Eagle build that generates Vigor with Thunderspike and fires Quill Volley from mid-range. It adds the Vessel of Hatred Spirit Hall, Runewords, and Mercenaries plus Lord of Hatred Talismans as they unlock.
Why This Is the Beginner Baseline
2Strengths
- Mid-range piercing attacks and Eagle movement speed connect packs safely.
- No Unique is required; start by prioritizing weapon damage and the Vigor loop.
- Keeping Quill Volley makes several level-70 transitions straightforward.
Limitations
- Early Vigor is limited; Quill Volley stalls if Thunderspike is not woven in.
- Spirit Hall, Runewords, and Mercenaries require Vessel of Hatred progression.
- External tier ratings and leveling times vary by gear and route and are not guaranteed.
Final Six-Skill Setup
6Target Rank is the base-skill goal at level 70; spend remaining points on the chosen branch modifiers as they unlock.
Thunderspike
Basic attack for Vigor and movement, woven between Quill Volley casts.
Quill Volley
Main attack; overlap feathers from mid-range along the pack's path.
The Hunter
Ultimate for elites and bosses with additional reset opportunities from kills.
Ravager
Maintained buff supporting Attack Speed and cooldown flow.
Scourge
Adds nearby Fear, damage over time, and Vigor support.
Armored Hide
Defensive slot granting Block and Resolve before dangerous engagements.
Spirit Hall
2Setup checklist
- Level 15: Complete The Sacred Hunt and set Eagle as the primary Spirit for Storm Feathers, Vulnerable, and movement from Evades and Eagle skills.
- Level 30: Set Eagle as the secondary Spirit for periodic guaranteed Critical Strikes and Vulnerable support.
Vessel + Lord of Hatred Leveling Setup
3Talisman
- During leveling, use a Seal with more Charm Slots and prioritize experience, Movement Speed, and Eagle/Core ranks.
- Then add Critical Damage, Vulnerable Damage, and Attack Speed; do not keep weak Charms while waiting for a set.
- Use remaining slots to fill Maximum Life, Armor, and Resistances.
Runewords
- Poc + Que converts Vigor spending into Offering and invokes Earthen Bulwark for Barrier.
- Poc + Kry uses the same Vigor loop to invoke Vortex and pull enemies into feather lines.
- Use normal Gems until Runewords unlock in the campaign, then switch to the two pairs.
Mercenary
- Hire Varyana with Cleave, Hysteria, Bloodthirst, and Bloodlust for Attack and Movement Speed.
- Use Raheir's Provoke as Reinforcement, triggered by Quill Volley to handle dangerous packs.
- Keep the same skill loop before Mercenaries unlock and add them as support afterward.
Spiritborn itself requires Vessel of Hatred. Without Lord of Hatred, omit only Talismans and keep the same six skills, Spirit Hall, Runewords, and Mercenaries through level 70.
Level-by-Level Priorities
4Build the Vigor loop
- Take Thunderspike first and prioritize Quill Volley as the main attack.
- Add Ravager, Scourge, and Armored Hide for offensive and defensive buffs.
Unlock primary Eagle
- Complete The Sacred Hunt in Kehjistan and set Eagle as the primary Spirit.
- Add The Hunter and layer the Ultimate with Quill Volley after setting buffs against elites.
Add secondary Spirit and expansion systems
- Set Eagle as the secondary Spirit and unlock Runewords and Mercenaries through the campaign.
- With Lord of Hatred, fill a high-slot Seal with leveling-focused Charms.
Stabilize Vigor, Vulnerable, and defense
- Improve Vigor generation, Attack Speed, Movement Speed, and Vulnerable damage to reduce builder casts.
- At level 70, spend saved Obols on a weapon upgrade and transition gradually into the chosen endgame build.
Simple Combat Loop
4- Use Ravager, Scourge, and Armored Hide to establish speed, Fear, and defense.
- Generate Vigor with Thunderspike and fire Quill Volley along the enemies' path.
- Layer The Hunter into elites and bosses, Evading dangerous attacks to trigger Eagle effects.
- Return to Thunderspike when Vigor runs out instead of continuing empty Quill Volley casts.
Use Normal as the speed baseline and raise to Hard only when packs never slow you down. Lower it for Vigor droughts, repeated deaths, or long elite fights.
What to Keep While Leveling
3Affix priorities
- Prioritize Weapon Damage and Item Power; early on, large weapon upgrades beat preserving Aspects.
- Seek Dexterity, Attack Speed, Vulnerable and Critical damage; add Vigor generation and Movement Speed for comfort.
- Fill Maximum Life, Armor, Resistances, and Maximum Resolve after each gear swap.
Helpful Aspects—not requirements
Low-level gear is replaced quickly, so avoid overspending scarce materials. New names without current Japanese verification remain in English.
Safe Alternatives
3Adjust without breaking the build
- For a simpler melee route, Mobalytics' Stinger Centipede setup is a no-Unique alternative.
- Swap Armored Hide for Vortex when grouping matters more, but restore it if defenses suffer.
- Without Lord of Hatred, keep everything except Talismans; Spiritborn still requires Vessel of Hatred.
