2. Attaching and Detaching Parts Even at Low Levels

3. Thoroughly Read "Raines Auto Manual" Magazines
To service specific parts (especially brakes and suspension, etc.), in addition to your Mechanics skill, you need to have read the corresponding vehicle type's service manual. There are three types: 'Raines Auto Manual - Standard Cars', '- Heavy Duty Cars', and '- Sports Cars'. Without reading these, you won't be able to perform work even if your skill level is sufficient. Prioritize searching for these alongside your skill books.

Essential Tools and Repair Fundamentals
For serious vehicle maintenance, the following basic tools are essential. Always keep a complete set at your base or load them into your maintenance vehicle.
- Wrench: Used for many parts like engines, seats, and hoods
- Screwdriver: For bulbs, batteries, radios, etc.
- Jack: Essential for attaching/detaching tires, brakes, and suspension
- Lug Wrench: Essential for attaching/detaching tires
- Tire Pump: To restore tire pressure
Additionally, to repair metal parts like damaged hoods or doors from zombie collisions, you'll need the following extra items:
- Propane Torch
- Welding Mask
- Metal Sheets
Engine Repair and Hotwiring (Starting Without a Key)

- Hotwiring: Requires Electrical skill level 1 and Mechanics skill level 2. This skill is extremely useful as a last resort if you can't find a car key.
- Engine Repair: Engines cannot be swapped from other vehicles; they can only be repaired on the spot. Dismantle engines from other vehicles to obtain "Engine Parts" and use them for repair. The required Mechanics skill level varies by vehicle type.

The Never-Ending Problem: How to Secure Gasoline

It's impossible to tell from the outside which cars have fuel remaining, so the surest way is to get in and check the fuel gauge. While B41 allows siphoning with just a container, future B42 builds suggest that a specialized item like a hose might be required.

Vehicle Selection and Final Check

Before departing, always check "Vehicle Info" from the V-key radial menu to ensure all parts are in good condition. The following parts are especially important:
- Engine: If its condition is poor, it risks stalling mid-journey, leaving you stranded in the middle of a zombie horde. Keep it as close to 100% condition as possible.
- Hood: A hood in good condition protects the engine from minor collisions. If damaged, even a small impact can more easily cause direct damage to the engine.
- Fuel Tank: If damaged, it will leak fuel, leading to unexpected fuel depletion.
- Tires: Ensure all four tires are in good condition and fully inflated. Carrying 1-2 spare tires will help you cope with unexpected punctures.
Supplies and Route Planning
For long journeys, carrying sufficient supplies is essential. Starting with multiple full "Gas Cans," remember to load several days' worth of food and water, medical supplies for first aid, and weapons and ammunition for emergencies.
