AC6 Balteus Guide: Optimal Beginner Build and Tactics (Patch 1.09)
ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON does not have a season system, but the latest regulation is “Patch 1.09” (released May 23, 2025). This article is based on current information.
“Balteus,” the boss that stands at the end of Chapter 1 in “ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON.” Its overwhelming missile barrage, formidable Pulse Armor (PA), and high-firepower armaments have driven many new mercenaries to despair. However, Balteus is by no means an unfair boss. By understanding its characteristics and forming the appropriate assembly, it becomes a “good wall” that anyone can overcome. This article provides a comprehensive guide to defeating Balteus, from stable builds suitable for beginners who struggle with action games to high-mobility builds for players confident in evasion.
Key to Defeating Balteus: “PA Stripping” and “Stagger”
The core of defeating Balteus lies in how quickly you can strip its covering Pulse Armor (PA). While PA is active, damage is significantly reduced, so focus your attacks with weapons effective against PA first. Once the PA is destroyed, Balteus will enter a vulnerable stagger state for an extended period. During this prime opportunity, unleash your highest firepower—this is the fundamental strategy.
Pulse-attribute weapons like Pulse Guns and Pulse Blades are extremely effective for stripping Pulse Armor. The Pulse Gun “HI-16: GU-Q1,” available for purchase early in the shop, can be considered a specialized weapon for the Balteus fight.
Furthermore, post-release updates, especially the early Ver. 1.02, reduced Balteus's Missile Tracking performance, making the fight significantly easier compared to its initial release. Players who gave up in the past should now be able to overcome it.
[Beginner-Friendly] Stability-Focused! Tank Legs Overpower Build
For players who “just can't dodge attacks” or “struggle with complex controls,” the most recommended approach is the “Tank Build,” which involves changing the leg parts to the tank “LG-022T BORNEMISSZA.” With overwhelming AP (Armor Points) and defensive capabilities, you can disregard some incoming damage and push through with firepower.
Build Concept and Tactics
- High AP and Defense: High durability to withstand Balteus's intense attacks. Aim to overwhelm the boss before exhausting your Repair Kits.
- No Stance Required: The biggest advantage of tank legs is the ability to fire powerful shoulder parts like grenade cannons and bazookas while moving, without needing to brace. This allows for continuous offensive pressure.
- Simple Strategy: Achieve victory with a straightforward tactic: continuously fire the Pulse Gun at close range to strip PA, then, once Balteus is staggered, unleash simultaneous damage with both shoulder grenades and the Pulse Blade.
Assembly Example
| Part Type | Part Name | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| R-ARM UNIT | HI-16: GU-Q1 | Main PA stripping weapon. Keep firing at close range. |
| L-ARM UNIT | HI-32: BU-TT/A | Effective for follow-up attacks during stagger and also for stripping PA. |
| R-BACK UNIT | DF-GR-07 GOU-CHEN | Main damage source during stagger. |
| L-BACK UNIT | DF-GR-07 GOU-CHEN | Equip on both shoulders to maximize burst firepower. |
| HEAD | HD-012 MELANDER C3 | Good balance of defense and stability. |
| CORE | DF-BD-08 TIAN-QIANG | Heavy core boasting high AP and defensive capabilities. |
| ARMS | DF-AR-08 TIAN-QIANG | Excellent for firearm aptitude and Load / Carrying Capacity. |
| LEGS | LG-022T BORNEMISSZA | The core of this build. High durability and Load / Carrying Capacity. |
| BOOSTER | - | Tank legs cannot equip boosters. |
| FCS | FCS-G2/P05 | FCS with high close-range assist performance. |
| GENERATOR | VP-20C | High Generator Output and capacity to support EN weapons and heavy parts. |
OS Tuning Priority
- Explosive Weapon Damage Attenuation: Top priority OS tuning to boost grenade damage.
- Direct Hit Damage Adjustment: Further increases damage during stagger.
- Assault Armor: Can be used for emergency missile interception or as a final push to strip PA.
- Repair Kit Efficiency: Makes endurance fights more stable.
This tank build is highly effective not only for the Balteus fight but also for subsequent high-difficulty missions and boss battles. It allows for stable progression, especially in New Game Plus (NG+) playthroughs, so there's no downside to assembling it.
[Evasion-Focused] High-Mobility Assault Boost Assault Build
For players confident in action games, who enjoy predicting enemy attacks frame by frame, a mobility-focused build is recommended. Balteus's missiles actually have a characteristic that allows them to be safely evaded by moving in close to its chest.
Build Concept and Tactics
- Evasion via Assault Boost: Assault Boost (AB), which allows you to close the distance with enemies while outmaneuvering missiles, is key to both offense and defense. Constantly move around, getting into the blind spots of enemy attacks.
- Three-dimensional Movement: Utilize the high jumping power of reverse-joint legs for vertical movement to evade flamethrowers and missiles.
- Hit-and-Run: Strip PA with the plasma rifle, then, when signs of stagger appear, charge with the blade. Once staggered, follow up with all armaments. Afterwards, immediately create distance to regroup.
Assembly Example
| Part Type | Part Name | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| R-ARM UNIT | Vvc-760PR | Good balance of PA stripping and direct hit damage. |
| L-ARM UNIT | HI-32: BU-TT/A | Starting point for offense and damage source during stagger. |
| R-BACK UNIT | BML-G1/P03MLT-06 | 6-cell missile effective for maintaining stagger and harassment. |
| L-BACK UNIT | BML-G1/P03MLT-06 | Increases bullet density and accumulates ACS Load. |
| HEAD | HD-011 MELANDER | Lightweight, well-balanced standard head. |
| CORE | VP-40S | Core with excellent EN Defense and mobility. |
| ARMS | AL-J-121 BASHO | High melee weapon aptitude, increasing blade power. |
| LEGS | LG-022 KASUAR/42Z | High jumping power and ground mobility from reverse joints. |
| BOOSTER | ALULA/21E | Excellent Assault Boost (AB) thrust and EN consumption efficiency. |
| FCS | FCS-G2/P05 | Emphasizes close-range lock-on performance. |
| GENERATOR | VP-20S | High EN recovery performance, supporting mobile combat. |
OS Tuning Priority
- Assault Boost (AB): Improved turning performance and reduced collision damage are essential.
- Quick Turn: Makes it easier to evade attacks with sudden changes in direction.
- Weapon Hanger: Allows for more varied attacks by switching handheld parts.
- Terminal Armor: Insurance in case AP (Armor Points) unexpectedly drops to 0. Allows you to survive once.
This high-mobility build is ideal for players who want to enjoy AC-style speedy combat. It serves as a fundamental assembly for first playthroughs, aiming for S Rank clears, and even for PvP (Arena, NEST).
Common Combat Flow and Late-Game Precautions
Regardless of the build you choose, the basic combat flow is common.
- Opening: A large volume of missiles will fly towards you. Don't hesitate; rapidly approach Balteus using Assault Boost (AB). Missiles tend to circle around your AC, so closing the distance significantly reduces hits.
- PA Stripping: Primarily using Pulse Guns and Plasma Rifles, continuously attack to deplete the PA gauge. When the gauge reaches zero, the blue effect will vanish, and a destruction sound will play.
- Stagger Follow-up: Once the PA is stripped, Balteus will enter a stagger state. This few-second window is your biggest opportunity. Unleash your highest-damage parts, such as grenades or the Pulse Blade.
- Assault Armor Alert (Below 50% AP): When Balteus's AP (Armor Points) drops below half, it will use a powerful omnidirectional “Assault Armor” attack once. If the AC glows red and a “Waveform...” communication is heard, immediately boost away to create significant distance. The explosion range is quite large, so evasion is impossible at a moderate distance.
- Late Game: After Assault Armor, Balteus adds a new flamethrower sweep attack. This is very high-power, but has a large wind-up and its attack range is limited to the front and sides. Always try to maneuver above or behind Balteus to safely counter this.
Repeating this cycle 2-3 times should lead to victory. Don't rush; focus on stripping PA and unleashing maximum firepower during stagger.
Summary
“Balteus,” the boss of Chapter 1, is an excellent boss that teaches players the fundamentals of ARMORED CORE VI's combat system: “predict enemy attacks, exploit weaknesses, and overwhelm them.” The two builds introduced here can be considered optimal assembly for experiencing these lessons.
If you're still struggling even with the tank assembly, double-check if you've forgotten to buy any parts or if you've performed OS tuning. Conversely, if you're having difficulty with the high-mobility assembly, trying the tank assembly once is also an effective strategy. The true joy of this game lies in being able to challenge formidable enemies countless times with an Armored Core (AC) that suits your playstyle. Trust your assembly, follow the guidance of Coral, and soar through the skies of Rubicon.
