Acid Aegis of Menhir Sentinel
A two-pronged Sentinel that fires the Occultist's Dreeg's Evil Eye for direct acid/poison damage while spamming the Oathkeeper's Aegis of Menhir, converted to Acid via its Aegis of Thorns modifier. Aegis of Thorns converts 100% of the Fire damage to Acid and permanently adds 18% of the character's Retaliation Damage value to the attack (40% combined with the Ronaprax's Sting amulet) — a flat bonus, not something that scales with being hit. The shield's block and high physical resistance are a separate, purely defensive strength. Gearable almost entirely from purchasable or farmable Monster Infrequent items, it's been demonstrated clearing Shattered Realm 65.
Aegis of Menhir
The author personally cleared SR65 (both before and after acquiring BiS gloves) and defeated Theodin Marcell, Korvaak, Kra'Vall, Mad Queen, and Morgoneth, with video proof linked in the forum thread (as of v1.2.0.3). Not yet re-verified on the current v1.2.1.6. This isn't a stand-and-facetank build — it assumes mid-range sustained attacks combined with throwing Aegis of Menhir (the source guide explicitly says it's "not for lazy facetankers").

Skills & Priorities
8An active attack that hurls the shield at a target, staggering it, before it returns to hand. Taking 1 point in the Aegis of Thorns modifier converts 100% of its Fire damage to Acid and adds 18% of the character's Retaliation Damage value to the attack (RAtA). The Ronaprax's Sting amulet adds another +22% RAtA specifically to Aegis of Menhir, for 40% combined. This bonus applies whenever the skill is used, regardless of whether you're currently being hit — the shield's block and high physical resistance are a separate, purely defensive benefit. Bind the Dryad devotion's Dryad's Blessing proc here.
The Occultist's primary attack: a homing projectile that streaks toward the target and detonates for acid/poison damage. Bind Manticore's Acid Spray proc here.
A curse that lowers enemy defensive ability and resistances. Bind Murmur's Rumor proc here to stack additional resistance shred.
An Occultist defensive buff. Bind Behemoth's Giant's Blood proc here for an on-hit emergency heal.
A buff granting sustained regen and Vitality Decay resistance.
An Oathkeeper self-buff granting damage absorption — save it for when you get surrounded and things get dangerous.
A defensive Oathkeeper aura, invested alongside Haven — max both together to shore up survivability.
A support node unlocked while investing in the Oathkeeper mastery bar; per the source guide, take 1 point here and 1 in Summon Guardian of Empyrion as prerequisites. The summoned guardian's own attacks can trigger bound devotion procs, so bind Abomination's Abominable Might proc to Summon Guardian of Empyrion.
Devotion Route (In Order)
15- 1.1 point in Crossroads (Order), bringing the running total to Order 1.
- 2.Complete Dryad (5pt / requires Order 1 — the Crossroads point covers it. Grants Order +3, bringing the total to Order 4). Bind its Dryad's Blessing proc to Aegis of Menhir.
- 3.1 point in Crossroads (Eldritch), bringing the running total to Eldritch 1.
- 4.Complete Scholar's Light (3pt / requires Eldritch 1 — the Crossroads point covers it. Grants Eldritch +4, bringing the total to 5).
- 5.1 point in Crossroads (Chaos), bringing the running total to Chaos 1.
- 6.Complete Jackal (3pt / requires Chaos 1 — the Crossroads point covers it. Grants Chaos +3, bringing the total to 4).
- 7.1 point in Crossroads (Primordial), bringing the running total to Primordial 1.
- 8.Complete Hound (3pt / requires Primordial 1 — the Crossroads point covers it. Grants Primordial +4, bringing the total to 5).
- 9.Complete Eel (3pt / requires Primordial 1 — accumulated Primordial 5 covers it. Grants Primordial +5, bringing the running total to 10).
- 10.Complete Rat (4pt / requires Chaos 1 — accumulated Chaos 4 covers it. Grants Chaos +2, Eldritch +3, bringing totals to Chaos 6, Eldritch 8).
- 11.Complete Fox (4pt / requires Eldritch 1 — accumulated Eldritch 8 covers it. Grants Eldritch +5, bringing the total to 13).
- 12.[Core] Complete Behemoth (6pt / requires Chaos 3, Eldritch 4, Primordial 4 — accumulated Chaos 6, Eldritch 13, Primordial 10 covers it all. Grants Chaos +2, Eldritch +3, bringing totals to Chaos 8, Eldritch 16). Bind its Giant's Blood proc to Aspect of the Guardian.
- 13.[Core] Complete Murmur, Mistress of Rumors (6pt / requires Chaos 3, Eldritch 6, Primordial 6 — accumulated Chaos 8, Eldritch 16, Primordial 10 covers it. Grants Chaos +2, Eldritch +2, bringing totals to Chaos 10, Eldritch 18). Bind its Rumor proc to Curse of Frailty.
- 14.[Core] Complete Manticore (6pt / requires Chaos 4, Eldritch 6 — accumulated Chaos 10, Eldritch 18 covers it. Grants Ascendant +1, Eldritch +1, bringing Eldritch to 19). Bind its Acid Spray proc to Dreeg's Evil Eye.
- 15.[Core] Complete Abomination (8pt / requires Chaos 8, Eldritch 18 — accumulated Chaos 10, Eldritch 19 covers it). Both of its procs trigger "on attack," and the build's only active attack skills, Aegis of Menhir and Dreeg's Evil Eye, already carry other procs. Since the summoned guardian's own attacks can also trigger bound procs, bind Abominable Might to Summon Guardian of Empyrion. The other proc, Tainted Eruption, has no free attack-skill slot in this build and is left unbound — Abomination is still worth completing for its passive resistance/damage/DA bonuses alone. This spends the full 55-point budget. The source guide also invests in Yugol, the Insatiable Night, but its Chaos 7 / Eldritch 20 requirement is too steep to fit the budget alongside Abomination — as commenters on the original thread note, Yugol is an optional add-on, so this route leaves it out.
Gear
- ▸Start as Occultist and lean on Dreeg's Evil Eye. Weapon type doesn't matter — just swap in whatever rolls better damage/physical resistance as you find it.
- ▸After defeating Warden Krieg, head to Old Arkovia and join the Forgotten Gods' Cult of Dreeg faction. Pick up the early MI amulet, Ronaprax's Sting, which adds +90% weapon damage and +22% Retaliation Damage to Attack, both specifically to Aegis of Menhir.
- ▸Farm Sister Crimson, Vengeance of Kymon in the Tomb of Sethan (Valley of the Chosen) for Chosen Raiment and Korvan Pauldrons.
- ▸Buy Vine Ring from the Vinelton vendor in Ancient Grove for both ring slots, and reset-buy Hyram's shop in Malmouth until a physical-resistance-rolled Colossal Defender appears.
- ▸Farm the Guardian of Dreeg near Devil's Crossing for Dreeg-Sect Legguards. Fill gloves/boots with whatever easily-farmed rare/MI armor covers your resistances for now.
- ▸Keep Ronaprax's Sting as the amulet (+90% weapon damage and +22% Retaliation Damage to Attack, both on Aegis of Menhir specifically). Weapon type doesn't matter, so use whatever rolls best; keep a physical-resistance-rolled Colossal Defender as the off-hand shield.
- ▸Hold onto Chosen Raiment (chest), Korvan Pauldrons (shoulders), and 2x Vine Ring.
- ▸Gloves: Mythical Viperfang Grips is BiS; use easily-farmed budget armor for resistances until you get it.
- ▸Waist: Gargoyle Girdle — a rare item, but its all-Retaliation-Damage bonus scales up both Aegis of Thorns' and Ronaprax's Sting's RAtA cuts.
- ▸Legs: Dreeg-Sect Legguards. Helmet: fill resistances with any easy rare/MI piece, or chase Dreeg Venomshroud Hood for its acid/poison/vitality damage bonuses.
- ▸The source guide doesn't name specific medal/relic picks — choose ones with acid damage bonuses individually.
Playstyle & Notes
- ▸Hold your shield and rapid-fire Dreeg's Evil Eye for steady acid/poison damage.
- ▸Open on packs with Curse of Frailty first to strip resistance and DA before committing.
- ▸Weave in Aegis of Menhir throws too (Acid via Aegis of Thorns) — RAtA permanently adds 40% of your Retaliation Damage value to it, a flat bonus independent of whether you're currently being hit. Taking hits is still useful for farming the Dryad's Blessing and Giant's Blood procs, but don't just stand still — keep some distance and reposition.
- ▸Pop Ascension when surrounded and things get dangerous.
Curse of Frailty plus the Murmur and Manticore devotions strip enemy acid/poison resistance and DA. On your own side, build around Colossal Defender's physical-resistance roll and Gargoyle Girdle's Chaos resistance, filling the rest to cap with components and augments. Carrying a shield also gives block mitigation on top of resistances.
This isn't a mindless AFK tank — it plays closer to a caster (the source guide explicitly says it's "not for lazy facetankers"). Watch out for early threats like Alcedian Aldrick's stun attacks in Act 2 Elite. The guide is from v1.2.0.3 and hasn't been re-verified on the current v1.2.1.6.
Farm Sister Crimson in the Tomb of Sethan (Valley of the Chosen) for Chosen Raiment and Korvan Pauldrons, the Guardian of Dreeg near Devil's Crossing for Dreeg-Sect Legguards, gargoyle packs for Gargoyle Girdle, and Hyram's shop in Malmouth for Colossal Defender.
