Talisman Guide: Seals, Charms, and Set Bonuses
Learn Lord of Hatred's equipment system in order: unlock it, open up to six slots with a Seal, stack Charms, activate set bonuses, and refine the result with the Horadric Cube.
Unlock the Talisman through the campaign and apply a Seal to open Charm slots. Meet the key set threshold first, then fill remaining slots with stackable non-Unique affixes or a required Unique Charm. Treat the live tooltip as authoritative for thresholds and effects, then use the Horadric Cube to reroll Set Charms or craft Unique Charms for the build's job.
Five Steps to Build Your First Talisman
51. Unlock the System in the Campaign
Talisman unlocks through the Lord of Hatred campaign. Charms begin dropping after that unlock, so do not build a fixed farming loop before the system is active.
2. Apply a Seal First
A Seal determines Talisman affixes and available Charm slots. Compare its name, added affixes, slot count, and restrictions before selecting Charms.
3. Confirm Up to Six Open Slots
A Talisman can hold up to six Charms, but the active count depends on its Seal. Check the visible open slots and any Seal exception every time.
4. Meet the Set Threshold First
Choose one class-specific or all-class set and meet its displayed partial or complete bonus threshold. Confirm activation before mixing another set.
5. Fill Remaining Slots and Test
Fill remaining slots with non-Unique defense, speed, or damage affixes, or a build-enabling Unique Charm. Charms can be swapped freely, so compare one change at a time in play.
The Six System Parts
6Talisman
The container holding one Seal and its Charms. A Charm has no effect merely by sitting in inventory.
Seal
Adds affixes and unlocks Charm slots. More powerful Seals can provide more affixes and slots, but individual restrictions still matter.
Non-Unique Charm
Non-Unique Charms with the same affix stack their bonuses. Use them to patch gaps after meeting a set threshold.
Set Charm
Equipping multiple Charms from one set unlocks additional affixes. Read the displayed requirements for partial and complete bonuses.
Unique Charm
A high-rarity Charm with a unique power. Check allowed count and Seal interaction instead of treating it as an automatic upgrade.
Horadric Cube
Unlocked in Temis and used to craft Unique Charms, reroll Set Charms, and more. Treat the current Cube recipe and cost display as authoritative.
Five Rules for Reading Set Bonuses
5Separate Class and All-Class Sets
Sets can be class-specific or usable by every class. Do not import another class's ranking without checking eligibility.
Partial Bonuses Can Be Useful
Additional affixes can activate before a complete set. Compare a full main set with mixed partial sets for the intended activity.
Two, Three, and Five Are Current Examples
Current patch notes show two-, three-, and five-piece effects, but not every set must share those thresholds. Follow each live tooltip.
Check Gear Synergy
Evaluate Charms alongside skills, Unique gear, resource loops, and defenses. An active set that does not support the main skill is not automatically valuable.
Verify Activation After Every Change
Changing the Seal can reduce slots and break a set. Recheck color, count, and effect text before saving the loadout.
Five Acquisition and Upgrade Routes
5Drops After Unlock
Once unlocked through the campaign, Charms of every rarity begin dropping. Set drops have distinct audio and minimap presentation to help identification.
Season Rank Caches
In the current season, Rank caches can include Seals and Charms. Check the reward currently shown on the Rank screen.
Infernal Hordes Talisman Chest
The current displayed cost for the Chest of Talismans is 200 Aether. Do not treat the old 100-Aether opening bug as the live rule.
Craft Uniques in the Cube
The Horadric Cube can craft Unique Charms. Its materials come from several routes including Elites, War Plans, Undercity Tributes, and Whisper caches.
Reroll Sets in the Cube
Use unwanted Set Charms as reroll candidates after checking the current Cube recipe and cost. Protect completed pieces before consuming materials.
A Five-Stage Upgrade Loop
5Choose One Main Set
Choose one complete or partial bonus tied directly to the main skill and activity, then note its required count.
Choose the Seal from Required Slots
Add the set requirement and flex slots, then confirm the Seal opens enough space. Do not choose on Seal affixes alone.
Lock the Set Threshold
Insert the required Set Charms first and use the active bonus as the loadout's baseline.
Patch Weaknesses with Flex Slots
Patch speed, defense, resources, or single-target damage one at a time with stacked non-Unique affixes or a Unique power.
Retest After Cube Upgrades
After rerolling or updating a unique power, compare under the same difficulty and activity. Do not judge completion by sheet power alone.
Choose by Build Purpose
5Leveling
Do not wait for a complete set; use open slots for movement, defense, and resource stability. Avoid expensive rerolls on temporary pieces.
Speed Farming
Favor movement, area clear, and resource uptime over excess damage, then measure actual run time.
Bossing
Prioritize single-target output and sustained resources; do not spend too many slots completing an area-only set.
Pit and Tower Push
Meet survival requirements first, then add damage to improve time. Do not assume the Pit and Tower reward identical setups.
Class-Specific or All-Class
Choose between a class set that transforms the main skill and an all-class set reusable across setups, including storage and upgrade cost.
Common Talisman Boundaries
7- A Charm is active only while inserted into a Talisman, not while sitting in inventory or stash.
- There is no universal best Seal; compare required slots, affixes, and Unique allowance per build.
- Same-affix stacking applies to non-Unique Charms; Unique and Set pieces follow their own conditions.
- Not every set is guaranteed to use the same two-, three-, or five-piece thresholds; follow the live tooltip.
- In 3.1.1, Seal of Golden Epiphany allows up to three Unique Charms and no longer removes two slots; do not reuse old layouts.
- Adding Mythic modifiers to Unique Charms or Seals was unintended in Season 14 and was removed in 3.1.1a.
- Do not promise fixed drop rates, guaranteed quantities, or permanent set rankings; recheck rewards and patch notes on update.
Important Patch 3.1.1 and 3.1.1a Changes
6- Seal of Golden Epiphany lost its two-slot penalty and now allows up to three Unique Charms. Seal of Severed Finger was removed and existing copies converted.
- The Horadric Cube's Reroll Unique Power recipe now works on Talisman Charms and non-Ancestral items.
- The bug allowing the Infernal Hordes Chest of Talismans to open for 100 Aether was fixed; the displayed current cost is 200.
- Fixes cover set-grouped Charm sorting, item-power display for Seals and Charms, and slot unlocking on affected Talismans.
- Many class-set bonuses received balance changes and fixes; use live tooltips and current patch notes instead of old value tables.
- Patch 3.1.1a removed Mythic-modifier addition for Unique Charms and Seals; do not document the temporary Season 14 behavior as a permanent recipe.
