The long-awaited revival with an HD-2D remaster. Those days of adventure etched in our hearts are vividly brought back to life. To the heroes who clutched their Super Famicom controllers, forgetting the break of dawn as they continued their journey. And to new adventurers about to touch the legend. Let us now speak anew of why 'Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation' continues to captivate us so profoundly.

The Appeal and Game System of Dragon Quest

There are many reasons why this title is hailed as the 'masterpiece' of the 'Dragon Quest' series, but at its core lies the magnificent story, depicted as the concluding chapter of the 'Loto Trilogy'. A young hero embarks on a journey to defeat the Archfiend Baramos, inheriting his father's will. However, that journey was merely a prelude. The true mastermind emerges from the darkness, revealing a shocking truth. The ending, where the hero we control turns out to be 'Loto,' the legendary hero spoken of in later generations, imparted immeasurable emotion and impact upon players at the time.

Supporting this moving story is the groundbreaking game system. Particularly noteworthy are 'Luida's Tavern' and the 'Vocation/Class Change System'. Players create all party members themselves, with the exception of the protagonist hero. They give them names, choose their vocations, and form their own unique party. This high degree of freedom maximized immersion in the story. Warrior, Martial Artist, Mage, Priest... Players could consider the strengths and weaknesses of each vocation to form a balanced party, or challenge themselves with a specialized party of only Mages. This process of trial and error was the first, and greatest, joy in conquering Dragon Quest III.

Which Vocation Makes the Strongest Character?

'What is the strongest party?' This question is an eternal theme that cannot be avoided when discussing this game. To be frank, there is no single answer. However, a path to 'ultimate strength,' which many players aimed for and reveled in, certainly exists.

If you aim for the pinnacle of physical attack, the 'Warrior → Martial Artist' class change is the classic route. After gaining robust HP and Strength as a Warrior, you transition to a speedy Martial Artist with a high critical hit rate. Their attacks boast destructive power capable of crushing monsters. On the other hand, if you seek a spell specialist, there's the thorny path of 'Goof-off → Sage'. Only those who endure the grueling task of 'goofing off' until level 20 can become a Sage without a 'Book of Satori'. Early game progression is extremely difficult, but a versatile spellcaster obtained after much hardship will become the party's trump card.

Of course, changing from a Mage or Priest to a Sage, combining both offensive and healing spells, is also a solid and powerful option. While parties often settle on formations like 'Hero, Sage, Martial Artist' in the end, the unique development paths players take to reach that point truly showcase their individuality and prove the game's depth.

Best Spots for Late-Game Experience and Gold Farming

To cultivate the strongest party and prepare for the impending final battle, a vast amount of experience and gold is indispensable. Let's look back at those nostalgic farming spots where many heroes frantically hunted monsters.

When it comes to the sacred grounds for experience farming, it ultimately comes down to the 'Metal Slimes' (Hagure Metaru) that appear around 'Rimuldar' and 'Zoma's Castle'. How many times have we been frustrated by that high-pitched escape sound? However, the exhilarating feeling of landing a clean hit with a Poison Needle or a Hatchet Man and gaining a colossal amount of experience is truly priceless. This 'Metal Slime hunting' is an iconic feature of Dragon Quest, transcending mere level-up grinding to become a form of entertainment in itself.

Meanwhile, players who tirelessly pursued gold farming will recall 'Garna's Tower'. The Kandar's Henchmen (Kandata Kobun) that appear here continuously call for reinforcements, allowing for efficient gold farming by repeatedly defeating them. The days spent relentlessly hunting Kandar's Henchmen to acquire expensive 'Mirrored Shields' and 'Dragon Mail' for every party member are now fond memories. The sense of accomplishment in finally completing your own 'ultimate' party after such persistent effort is indeed the true essence of an RPG.
